LOKALENERGI: A STRONG PARTNER

History:

Lokalenergi was founded in 2002 as a result of the collaboration between the Danish electricity company Østjysk Energi and its neighbour electricity supply companies, Galten Elværk, Viby Elværk and Brabrand El-selskab.

Facing the liberalization process that the Danish energy sector underwent in 1999, these four electricity companies decided to establish a new cooperate company, in order to achieve a stronger competitive position in the open market – so Lokalenergi was founded.

50% of Lokalenergi is owned by Østjysk Energi, which is the largest of the net companies with around 52,000 installations.
Lokalenergi’s mission is to deliver electricity to all the costumers, who do not wish to purchase electricity on the free market, and it has the obligation to deliver electricity in the area of Østjysk Energi. Today Lokalenergi supplies almost 75 % of the total electricity consumption in the supply area.

A Wide Range of Offers:

Lokalenergi consists of two distinct concerns: Lokalenergi Forsyning A/S (electricity supply company) and Lokalenergi Han¬del A/S (electricity trade company).

Lokalenergi Handel A/S’s core functions are to:

- Sell and administrate electricity trade contracts;
- Provide energy consultancy to companies and householders;
- Sell products related to the energy sector;
- Stimulate research and development in the energy sector.

Electricity trade contracts:

Lokalenergi has a lead role in administrating and selling electricity trade contracts. Examples on contracts are “LE Wind”, whereby the customer supports environmental friendly electricity production by purchasing electricity generated by Danish wind mills, or 'LE Variable Pool”, whereby the customer benefits from the price movements on the electricity market.

Energy Consultancy

Lokanenergi's consultants have access to a large data base of facts and tests related to the various products in the market.
An important task in Lokalenergi's consultancy is to implement the energy saving requirements that have been imposed on the Danish electricity sector in 2010. On behalf of the four net companies, Lokalenergi is committed not only to assist the implementation of the required energy savings, but also to provide evidence that these savings actually take place.

Research and development

Lokalenergi is strongly involved in a wide range of research and development projects. Some projects aim to improve energy efficiency and business performance in energy-intensive companies by changing their production equipment. Other projects focus on new methods to change the attitude and conduct of private energy users.
